Leg 5 of our 2022 cruise up north

We weighed anchor from Northport around 8am.
As expected, winds were from the east, though they were pretty light. We motored the first 10nm, then the wind filled in at 10 knots from the east-southeast and we slowly sailed the remaining 30nm.
Kristin and I have anchored in St. James Harbor on Beaver Island a few times, and though it’s closer to the rhumb line going north, we wanted more of a “wilderness” anchorage… Garden Island is definitely more wilderness!
Garden Island Harbor is open to the west, but otherwise provides good protection from wind and waves. We dropped anchor around 6pm, a good three hours before sunset. We explored around in the dinghy with hopes of going ashore, but neither of us had read the Great Lakes Cruising Club Harbor Report recently… so we ended up just buzzing around in the dinghy. Another boater said they only found mud and muck ashore as well, and we didn’t have time to deal with being too “adventurous.” Some other time…
