In the winter I often volunteer to teach winter classes at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center. You can sign up in person, via phone at 414-277-9094, or online at sailingcenter.org > Learn to Sail > Fall & Winter Classes.
Below are links to the Google Slides presentations from some of the recent and upcoming winter classes I teach:
In Intro to Cruising, I talk about why cruising is fun‚ places to go near Milwaukee‚ costs‚ and logistics of cruising via boat. It’s oriented towards members who are considering owning or chartering. Class is Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 6pm.
In Intro to Anchoring, I talk about basic theory and procedures to make anchoring easy‚ including crew communications‚ selecting an anchorage‚ windlass operation‚ and mooring pickups. It’s oriented towards new crew, new charterers, and boaters new to cruising. Class is Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 6pm.
In Intro to GPS Navigation, I talk about finding your way(point) in an interactive class. We discuss how to select and navigate to a waypoint with a marine GPS. We’ll also discuss the points of a compass‚ steering a compass course‚ and using bearings to navigate. Class is Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 6pm.
