In Starting to Cruise, we discuss how cruising via sailboat can take you to places you might not otherwise see. I share what it’s like to travel via sailboat‚ and what to think about when planning your first few trips.

We’ll discuss destinations on the Great Lakes‚ expenses‚ marinas‚ cruising boat systems‚ and weather strategies. A class for prospective charterers‚ boat owners or crew who want to see what cruising is about. Class is Thursday, January 18, 2024.

In Marine VHF Radio Procedures, we learn about and practice proper phraseology and etiquette when using a marine VHF radio. Classes offered Thursday, February 1, 2024, and Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 6pm.

In Cruising the North Channel, we explore the dramatic wilderness anchorages of Lake Huron’s North Channel. With a varied combination of pine and rock formations‚ cliffs‚ islands‚ and bays‚ this cruising ground is within reach of Great Lakes sailors. We’ll discuss where to go‚ how to get there‚ and how to prepare. Class not offered in 2024.

In Intro to Anchoring, we learn about basic theory and procedures to make anchoring easy‚ including crew communications‚ selecting an anchorage‚ windlass operation‚ and mooring pickups. It’s oriented towards new crew, new charterers, and boaters new to cruising. Class not offered in 2024.
